1. COGNITISM


This theory was propounded by Swiss psychologist, Jean Piaget in 1952 after spending many years studying how the human brain assimilates knowledge.



He visualized the human brain as a network of boxes, which he called "schema". When a human receives new learning, a new schema is created. As people get older, it becomes more difficult to create brand new schema. 


However, learning becomes easier when new learning is associated in some way with an existing schema. 


IMPORTANT: New schema will get lost if the knowledge is not used.

This theory too was propounded by Jean Piaget as a follow up to Cognitism. 



Constructivism states that humans "construct" their learning by linking back to knowledge stored in existing schema. Since different people have different knowledge and life experiences, each individual will "construct" their schema differently.
